Event Series: Second Thursday

Second Thursday at the Museum

July 9 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 for our “Second Thursday at the Museum” event series at the Santa Ynez Chumash Museum and Cultural Center! Our featured speaker this month is local educator and author Paul H. Gelles, Ph.D.

Dr. Gelles is a former professor of Anthropology within the University of California system and has worked with indigenous communities both locally and abroad. Inspired by his experiences, Dr. Gelles has authored two books: Chumash Renaissance: Indian Casinos, Education, and Cultural Politics in Rural California, and Water and Power in Highland Peru; and is also the co-producer of the films, “Transnational Fiesta: 1992” and “Transnational Fiesta: 20 Years Later.”

For this free after-hours event, Dr. Gelles will be discussing his book, Chumash Renaissance, within the larger context of the issues facing indigenous peoples in the U.S. and in the Americas. Attendees will also be able to enjoy free museum admission to the Permanent Exhibit, Temporary Exhibit, and Cultural Park. Audio tours can be added to your experience for $10 per person.

Admission is free, and no reservation is required. We hope to see you there!
