School Field Trips
Enhance your lesson plan with a visit
to the Santa Ynez Chumash Museum and Cultural Center!
Exhibits at the Santa Ynez Chumash Museum and Cultural Center span over 10,000 years of history, from pre-contact to the present. School programs at the museum bring the exhibits to life and play a key role in supporting the museum’s mission: To promote respect, instill knowledge, and encourage open cultural discussions by sharing the heritage of the first people of the area – the present-day Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
School field trips provide a unique opportunity for students to learn about the first people of this region, while meeting the needs of local teachers.
Grant Funding Opportunities
The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation seeks to eliminate as many barriers as possible so that all schools in Santa Barbara County can experience our museum. The Foundation currently offers two distinct grants to support school field trips:
- Inspire & Explore Access Grant: Covers the cost of admission for students.
- Journey to Discovery Grant: Provides funds to offset transportation costs to the museum.
To learn more about these grant opportunities and submit an application, please visit the “Museum Grants for Schools & Students” section at www.chumash.gov/foundation.
Please note that guided field trips are not currently available but are slated to be offered later this year. If you would like to be added to the education contact list for updates about field trips and school programming, please email us at educate@sychumashmuseum.org. Be sure to include your name, school, location, grade, and number of students.
